Artists' studios in the media

Following the publication of NFASP's 2010 survey of artists' studios, it seems that artists' workspaces are now firmly on the agenda, with three publications featuring stories about the importance of studios.
The role that artists studios are playing in the recession was highlighted in an article in The London Evening Standard on 10 April. The article, which you can read by following this link  follows the publication of NFASP's survey of artists' studios and features NFASP members Creekside Artists, Acme and Bow Arts Trust.

The rise in vacant commercial properties has provided opportunities for artists to make new workspaces, with the knock-on benefits to the surrounding communities through projects and the revival of empty spaces.

Meanwhile a-n's Debate featured a response to NFASP's Member Event in Margate on 08 March. You can read the a-n piece here (subsriber-only) and Arts Professional featured an article about how artists transform towns here.
You can also see a BBC news story on empty buildings and artists' studios: BBC London has broadcast a story about artists reviving empty buildings in a feature called 'London's empty properties get an artistic lease of life'.

The upbeat feature says: "The economic downturn has left commercial and local authority properties empty all over the capital, but not all of that space is going to waste. Artists are using some premises as studios and they say that despite the recession, they have never had it so good."
